Building strong, resilient military families together…
New Parent Support Program
The Army’s New Parent Support Program (NPSP) is designed to help military families adapt to the challenges of parenthood, particularly for those expecting a child or with children under the age of 4 years. The program is part of the Army Community Service (ACS) and offers a range of support services aimed at promoting family wellness, reducing stress, and preventing child abuse or neglect. Here’s an overview of key features:
· Home Visits
NPSP home visitors are licensed clinical social workers or registered nurses that provide personalized, one-on-one guidance to parents. These visits provide an opportunity to discuss parenting techniques, infant care, and family dynamics in the comfort of the family’s home.
· Educational Resources
Parents can access resources on a variety of topics including infant care, child development, breastfeeding, and parenting techniques. The NPSP provides evidence-based information to help parents make informed decisions.
· Classes and Workshops
NPSP offers group classes and workshops, such as:
· Morning Playgroups
Playgroups provide the opportunity for parents to connect with other military families, build friendships, share experiences, expand their social networks within the community, and find emotional support in a non-judgmental environment. Playgroup activities are designed to support cognitive, motor, and emotional development through structured and free play.
· Crisis Intervention and Referral Services
The NPSP staff can help identify families in crisis or at risk and provide referrals to appropriate services, including mental health resources, financial counseling, or legal assistance if needed.
· Eligibility
All soldiers and family members expecting a child and/or with children from birth to 3 years are eligible to participate in NPSP services free of charge. Also eligible are activated Reservists/Guard, Retirees, and their families.
· Voluntary & Confidential
Services provided by NPSP are voluntary, and confidential. The goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment for families to grow and thrive. NPSP is designed to help alleviate the unique stresses that military families may face, especially when balancing the demands of military life with new parenthood.
